The Still Me Process

One Day Before Chemo

  •  Cut and shape moleskin with padding to your specific hairline, to protect your forehead and ears.
  • Purchase 75 lbs of dry ice from Linde Canada Inc. (4051 County Rd 42 – 519-948-4195) and divide pellets into 15 freezer bags the night before chemo.
  • Place all 4 gel-caps into your home freezer lying flat that same night.

Chemo Day

  • Three hours before chemo, take caps out of freezer and place in cooler spaced between ice bags in numerical order.
  • One hour before treatment, apply your custom-made skin protection to your forehead and ears.
  • Apply hairnet over protection, leaving long hair down.
  • Apply first cold cap.
  • Set timer for 20 minutes.

Throughout the day, Caps need to be changed every 20-25 minutes because the caps thaw while they are being worn. Ensure the changing of caps is done as quickly as possible to keep your scalp cold. Caps need to be rotated in the cooler, following the proper numerical order to allow sufficient refreezing time. Continue this process for 4 hours post treatment.
